Dear Friends and Neighbors,
You are invited to take part in a virtual town hall hosted by the Tax Structure Work Group taking place Wednesday, Oct. 6. There are two meeting times offered, one at 2:30 p.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m. Meeting details and registration links are listed below.
As you may already know, several tax increases have been approved over the last few years by the majority party, including a new income tax on capital gains. For a complete list of recent tax increases, click here.
The Tax Structure Work Group
The Tax Structure Work Group was created by the Legislature in 2017 “to identify options to make the Washington state tax code more equitable, adequate, stable and transparent.” In May, the group released six tax “scenarios,” including a plan to implement a personal income tax. These tax proposals will be presented and discussed during the town halls.
Here's the bottom line: There is simply no good reason to increase your taxes right now.
Despite the economic impact of the pandemic, our state's tax revenue forecast has remained strong. In fact, the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council announced in September a continuing trend of robust tax revenue collections.
If you are concerned about an income tax or want to discuss the need for tax relief, now is your opportunity to do so; the Tax Structure Work Group is looking for input from taxpayers. Information and registration links are below:
