Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thousands of bills have been introduced to the Legislature during the 2019-20 biennium. With the passing of two recent deadlines—fiscal cutoff and policy cutoff—several hundred of them are now considered “dead.” Some bills die very visibly following spirited public debate, while others go out with a whisper, simply never being brought up for a vote or by getting buried in appropriations or fiscal committees.

With less than 30-days left in the 2020 session, we're now rushing towards another critical deadline in which several hundred more bills will also go to their demise. House of origin cutoff is next week on Wednesday, Feb. 19. This is the last day for bills to be considered in the chamber in which they originated. The only exception are bills necessary to implement the budget, which are always in play.

What does that mean for legislators? For the next several days, we'll be busy on the House floor debating and voting on bills. Please know that as I review each proposal, it's with you and your family in mind. You can follow this link to see an updated list of bills approved by the House. If you have any questions or concerns about a particular bill, feel free to contact me. I'm always glad to hear from you!
